Horizonhonger; 200 days, 200 km (in one day…in China)

Today it is 200 days ago that I left home. I thought it would be cool to cycle 200 km to make it a memorable day. Admittedly, the idea formed only after a few hours of strong tailwinds. After about 130km the wind completely changed and I found myself fighting a strong headwind the rest of the day, because I am too stubborn to stop when I have something in my head. I finally managed to do 201 km and celebrated with a luke warm beer and a shitty camp spot. I will sleep like a baby. #bicycletouring #wuronwheels #china #200days

My first week in China brought me over the Tianshan mountains of Xinjiang, after which I cycled the highway to Urumqi. The roads and winds are good here, allowing me to cover large distances on a day. It is a productive region with cotton fields, grapes, apples and chillies and I’ve been thoroughly enjoying the Chinese food after 2 months of plov, manti and Snickers. There’s a strong police presence in this region, which can be cumbersome for cycling tourists as it means passing through checkpoints several times a day. The police is friendly and polite though, the only official warning I got was to wear warmer clothes because it can get cold in the night. #china #bicycletouring #worldcycling #wuronwheels #tianshan.
